The Proposal

February 13, Friday. The night before Valentine's Day.

Malas daw ang Friday the 13th. Pero astig itong si Jake. Hindi siya naniniwala sa mga ganiyang superstitious. Kaya tuloy ang proposal.

May kaya si Jake - may kayang mangutang. Joke lang. Sayang naman ang ambience kung hindi pagkakagastahan. Minsan ka lang ikakasal, lubusin mo na. Kaya, proposal pa lang, bongga na.

They set the table, covered with pink linen and white lace, in the middle of the pool. Pinkish dinnerware, golden cutlery, champagne glasses, pink tulips at the centre of the table. White and red roses quietly floating in the water, moon light glimmering. There were red and white balloons, red and white satins decorated just every empty space. A few meters away, there was a harpist, a flautist, a pianist, a violinist, and an acoustic guitarist waiting to play some romantic music.

Akala ni  Maine, it's just one of those Valentine's date.

There came Maine as the violinist started to play When I Fall In Love. She was in a fuchsia floral sleeveless dress tightened by a black wide belt that made her waist looked 18. Para siyang a-attend ng prom night noong 50s.

"Wow!" That was her reaction nang makita niya ang well-decorated place. Napanganga at napaluwa ang mga mata niya.

"Ayy!

Oh, that smile of him! Walang cavities, walang pasta. Parang hindi na kailangang mag-mouthwash. At may dimples pa.

They walked the aisle while the harpist was playing Perfect. Dahan-dahan at baka sila madulas at mahulog sa pool. Very gentleman naman itong si Jake. Talagang super-alalay siya kay Maine.

"Wow, ang ganda-ganda naman nito Jake. Magkano ginastos mo dito?" How romantic, 'di ba?

"Money does not count. Love is all that costs," sagot naman ni Jake. Ano daw?

Dinner time. Chardonnay, Soupe au Pistou, Pan Seared Halibut with Lemon Dill Sauce, and Cream Puff Swan for the dessert.

Then came the main event – the proposal. Sa ibabaw ng Cream Puff Swan was a diamond ring. Maliit lang naman yun diamond, but at least, it's genuine diamond. The script was that the waiter would hand in the Cream Puff Swan to Jake so he could hide the ring from Maine's sight. Then, he would hand in to Maine the Cream Puff Swan that had the ring on it. Sabay luluhod si Jake, then propose with these lines.
"It took me time to say I love you. Back then, you were still in a relationship. So, I settled for a friendship. I waited. I didn't mind how long. All I knew was that you're the one I wanted to live with forever. Will you marry me? Please?"
Alden, the waiter, was approaching the table carrying the set of Cream Puff Swan that he's supposed to give to Jake.

Sisid dito. Sisid doon. Hindi niya makita ang diamond ring. Goodbye 50,000.

"Sir, huwag kayong mag-alala.

Magka-something kaya sila? Abangan...

To be continued...

I Will Never Forget England

I was listening to a song "Weekend In New England" by Barry Manilow. While listening, this story popped up in my head – When will our eyes meet; when can I touch you... and when will I hold you again. Here's the story. Two strangers met at an airport: Alden and Julie. Both heads down, busy with their phones, they bumped shoulder to shoulder against each other. " Sorry! I wasn't looking," they both admitted. "Pinoy ka?" she asked. Though alam naman niya na Pinoy siya. Kaya lang, just to have something to start with. " Ikaw? Pinoy?" Alden asked back as if hindi niya batid. " Hindi. Pinay. :-)" Julie replied with a smile. "Okay lang kahit hindi ka magsalita. Maiintindihan ko... Unless gusto mo akong umalis." Alden replied with a silent answer. Julie understood it; so she deci...
